Children Learn Best by Doing, Not Viewing

...and that's why all of the 23 NCM exhibits are interactive. Adults and children can explore together in a safe, family-friendly environment. Spend an hour or an entire day - it's all yours to explore!
Engaging Exhibits - Some of the NCM Permanent Collection

The Northwoods Children's Museum has assembled a collection of exhibits to engage the mind and inspire children to learn about the things that are important to the Northwoods and the world around them through fun and interactive play.

Bubble Science
Do you know what bubbles are and how they work? Find out first hand by stepping inside one at our bubble station. See how big you can make one before it pops!

Weather Center
This new and growing exhibit features a tornado simulator without the worry of destruction. Become a fellow storm chaser and learn about one of the greatest forces of nature in Wisconsin.

Children's Outdoor Garden
This living exhibit was designed by the Vilas County Master Gardeners and is a great outdoor experience for children to explore year round. Sand toys optional.

Grocery Store
A modern and old-time grocery store will certainly whet your appetite. Learn about food choices and money management in both a modern and old-time setting.

Ranger Station, Fire Tower & Camping
Wildfires are a big concern in the Northwoods and after you put on your ranger hat, you can help with detection from the ground or above in a fire tower. Or share some stories around the campfire under Smokey Bear's watchful eye!

Art Studio
Craft to your art's content here! Several tables are stocked with supplies for you to use and creative project ideas well-suited for different age levels. Aprons and sink are close at hand.

Wisconsin River and Pond
Catch and release are the rules when catching fish here along with staying dry! See the importance that water plays in our everyday life.

Grandma's Attic
Just like the real thing but with no dust! Playing dress-up isn't limited to just the attic...princesses and firemen have been known to come out of the attic to roam the museum.

Reading Tree
Pick a favorite book and follow-along as it is read to you while nestled comfortably in the hollow of a tree.

Pioneer Cabin
Learn about how our ancestors lived in a time when gathering food, preparing meals and raising a family were a lot different.

Plus Many More!
We don't want to give all the surprises away! The fun part is discovering the Northwoods Children's Museum for yourself!
